The ILGP Coordinating Committee endorsed the Independent Map Amendment to the Illinois Constitution. This amendment would create an independent commission to draw the maps for electoral districts in Illinois. The petitions are circulating now. This is an example of direct democracy–if enough registered Illinois voters sign the petition, the amendment will be adopted; that’s right, neither the governor nor the legislature need be involved.
