This month, The People’s Lobby and Fair Economy Illinois launched an amazing 200-mile, 15-day march from Chicago to Springfield in support of a People and Planet First Budget. They have been marching since May 15th, and will be marching to the state capitol on May 30th to present lawmakers with a budget that puts the actual citizens of Illinois first — not private, corporate interests.
The Illinois Green Party supports and endorses both the People and Planet First Budget and the March to Springfield. We are asking all ILGP members able to make the trip to rally with the marchers in Springfield on their final day, Tuesday May 30th!
Green Party members wanting to join us in supporting the March to Springfield can join in any or all of the following activities over the last two days of the March:
– Monday, May 29th Listening Tour – Part of the March to Springfield is the series of public listening events at which the marchers present the basics of the PPF Budget and listen to the needs of the communities that they are visiting. The final listening tour event will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 1612 E Capitol Ave, Springfield, IL, at 7:00pm. A turnout of Greens in party shirts would be a great way to make our presence and support felt!
– Tuesday, May 30th March to Springfield Final Day – The main event. Kicking off at 10:30am (so Greens will be gathering around 10:00 am) at the Old State Capitol plaza (6th & Adams intersection), the final day is a half-mile march to the Capitol Building, where there will be a rally, speeches, “people’s congress,” and various demonstrations at legislators’ offices. The ILGP plans to march with a banner and with signs supporting the PPF Budget.
– Tuesday, May 30th Greens Night Out – Following the end of the formal March to Springfield events (scheduled to wrap up by 5:00pm), Illinois Green Party members will gather for dinner and socializing at Gallina’s Pizza, just a few blocks from the state capitol. This will be a great chance for us all to get to know one another better and play host to some of our friends and allies from other progressive groups.
