    Illinois Green Party Spring Meeting

    IMG_0496.JPG

In these trying times with new leadership of the most powerful nation in the world already in the first few weeks taking us in a very dangerous direction, it’s our duty to the 99% to provide a vigorous opposition to the two party tyranny, so…

    Don't Demoralize! Organize!

Mark your calendar: the Illinois Green Party will be holding its statewide membership meeting on Saturday, March 25th, at the Oak Park Library Veteran's Room. (834 Lake St., Oak Park, IL) We will be electing party officers for the coming year, as well as considering Bylaws amendments, introducing 2017 candidates and 2018 campaign plans, and running breakout workshops on progressive organizing topics. There will be a cocktail mixer Friday evening, and a fundraiser dinner following the meeting on Saturday.

A couple details of the weekend to highlight:

    • Friday, March 24th from 7-9pm, there will be a Green Party social with food and drink at 1017 Studios (128 W. Harrison St, Oak Park, IL). Starting at 8pm, Luna Blues Machine will be giving us their acoustic fusion sound, so come for the company and stay for the rhythm and blues!
    • On the evening of Saturday, March 25th, the ILGP will host its fundraising dinner and awards ceremony at the Khyber Pass Restaurant. We're very excited to have Bruce Dixon, the managing editor of Black Agenda Report, as our keynote speaker this year! The dinner needs an accurate headcount, so please RSVP to the event page on our website!
    • The fundraising dinner will have a silent auction table. Members who wish to donate to the silent auction should contact Sheldon Schafer at sschafer7@gmail.com. Any and all donations are welcome, from gift cards to household items to Green Party or other political swag!
    • If you're traveling from outside the Chicago area and you need assistance with lodgings, please contact Cook County Green Party Chair Julie Samuels at samjuels@yahoo.com.

For further details and a full agenda, visit Mixer, meeting agenda, dinner and other logistical details, which includes links to the latest information on the schedule, directions to the library, and more. The Spring Meeting is our first chance this year to hear from all our statewide chapters and members in one place, and we hope you'll join us for all of Friday and Saturday's events!

Also, please consider donating to the Illinois Greens. It takes lots of small individual donations from people like you to cover the expenses required to support candidates and grow the Green Party in Illinois, since as I’m sure you know, we don’t take any big money special interest contributions so we can fight for economic, social, environmental, racial and democratic justice for everyone in Illinois, not just the fat cats.

    "Decisions are happening over dinner."

    -- Hamilton, Act II

At the end of our Spring Membership Meeting, we hope you'll stick around in Oak Park to join us at our semi-annual Membership Dinner & Fundraiser.

Dinner will feature a keynote speaker and the presentation of the Illinois Green Party's Hughes-Houghton Award -- an annual honor and $200 donation for individuals or organizations whose work has advanced the cause of the Green Party's Ten Key Principles.

This spring's dinner will be held at the Khyber Pass restaurant, one of Chicago's best Indian buffets, located walking distance from the Oak Park Library. We ask a $40 donation (or $20 student/low-income donation) to help cover expenses, which can be submitted with your RSVP form below.
