#OpenTheDebates Protest at WTTW Studios
#OpenTheDebates - Protest Green & Libertarian Exclusion from Public TV Debates
- WHO: Opponents of partisan bias in public broadcasting
- WHAT: Protest rally
- WHERE: WTTW Studios, 5400 St. Louis Ave., Chicago, IL
- WHEN: Tues. Oct. 25th, 6:00 - 7:00 PM
On Tues., Oct. 25th, Chicago's PBS affiliate WTTW will be airing a candidates' forum for the state Comptroller election -- but they're only telling half the story. Illinois ballots list four candidates for Comptroller, and WTTW refuses to host two of them.
Despite over 100,000 Illinois voters signing petitions to put them on the ballot, Green Party candidate Tim Curtin and Libertarian Party candidate Claire Ball have been told that WTTW doesn't consider them "viable"candidates -- in the private opinion of studio producers, who refuse to provide even a poll threshold or other benchmark for inclusion that the candidates could at least attempt to meet.
The Illinois Green Party urges anyone who opposes partisan bias in public television to join us in demonstrating in front of the WTTW studios (5400 St. Louis Ave., at the intersection of St. Louis and Balmoral) on Oct. 25th, 6:00 - 7:00 PM. Organizers will provide signs and flyers for any marchers that need them!
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A GREEN PARTY SUPPORTER TO PARTICIPATE. This is a rally for all Illinois residents who demand fair and equal political coverage from their taxpayer-funded media.
