A truly shocking number of races in Illinois are uncontested -- often more than 50% in any given year. "Elected" officials all over the state gain and retain office purely by default, without ever having to campaign.
You can help change that. By running for office, you help keep democracy vibrant and competitive. The skills you and your staff learn and the connections you build can also serve future campaigns, whether you're serving as a candidate or in a staff/advisory role.
The filing deadline for Illinois elections in 2017 has passed, so the next round of elections you can run in will be 2018, when county positions, state Assembly seats, many of the state Senate seats, and statewide offices such as Governor and Secretary of State will be on the ballot.
