Carbondale Public Forum on People & Planet First Budget & March to Springfield

Carbondale Public Forum on People & Planet First Budget & March to Springfield

There is hope for Illinois, but we, the people, must create it. Please join us Wednesday evening, May 17th, at the Carbondale Township Hall meeting room, 217 E. Main St. in Carbondale (across the street from the Bank of Carbondale main branch; use back entrance off Monroe Street), from 6:30 to 8 p.m., to learn about a great program for a better future in Illinois!

After almost two straight years of no state budget in Illinois, our so-called "representatives" seem incapable of even passing a bad budget, let alone a good one. Meanwhile, education from pre-K through grad school in Illinois is in a crisis, human services for people in dire need of help are falling apart, the State falls further and further behind in paying its bills - and there is no end in sight.

There are solutions, but don't expect them to come from the two corporate parties and their officeholders in Springfield. They are coming from the people and the grass roots organizations that understand what is needed to turn our state around.

The proposed People and Planet First Budget - from Fair Economy Illinois and supported by the Illinois Green Party - presents a positive vision for our future: One in which we not only provide necessary and improved funding to our schools and services, but move forward to provide a high-quality "Medicare for All" health-care plan for Illinoisans, modernize our infrastructure, convert to all-Green Energy, and provide tuition-free college education to Illinois students, while creating tens of thousands of new jobs in the process. This can be accomplished by common-sense measures to make our backwards tax system more fair and progressive, including the proposed LaSalle Street Tax on speculative trading.

Fair Economy Illinois is sponsoring a March to Springfield, starting in Chicago on May 15th and concluding with a final march and rally in Springfield on May 30th. Please visit their website to learn more about the March, and the Budget.

While we are not planning a march all the way from Southern Illinois, we ARE planning on car-pooling up to join our brothers and sisters from Northern Illinois for the final events in Springfield.

Please join us to:
● Learn more about the People and Planet First Budget,
● Join a community discussion about it, and
● Learn more about the March to Springfield and car-pooling from Southern Illinois.

Please note: If you cannot attend the forum, but you would still like to be part of a Green Party contingent traveling to Springfield for the march on May 30th, please contact Rich Whitney by e-mail, at
