Home - Victory

This afternoon, we turned in over 50,000 signatures to the Illinois Board of Elections in Springfield get Jill Stein, Scott Summers, and Tim Curtin on the ballot and offer Illinois voters a progressive choice in this election. Thank you to everyone who made this possible!

To all the people who hit the pavement, made phone calls, and shared our struggle on social media: this is your victory, thank you. We were even victorious in surpassing our goal of 45,000 by 5,000 signatures! The next step is to wait for the Illinois Board of Elections to certify Jill Stein and our other candidates on the ballot. During this time, it is possible that the Democratic Machine will try to challenge our petitions and throw us off the ballot. We will keep all informed.

There is more you can do.

Donate so we can help support our Green candidates and continue to spread our progressive solutions.

Volunteer. We will need all hands on deck to help our Green candidates in November.

Thank you again.

Matt Erard, your statement is wrong. This is the Green Parties position. "We support fair, reasonable and very low threshold ballot access requirements in our state. We do not support the proposition that there should be no requirements at all. However, the Illinois Green Party states that it is not the role of our party to police the ballot when all minority parties face a fundamentally unfair electoral system that is heavily stacked against them, all to the benefit of the two corporate parties. We recognize the Socialist Party and the Constitution Party as allies in the broader struggle for fair and reasonable ballot access laws. We reject the fiction that exists under Illinois law that these parties, and our party, are “new” parties that must repeatedly meet ridiculously high petition signature requirements, election after election, just to have our candidates on the ballot. We also recognize that the Socialist Party, the party of Eugene V. Debs, an historic agent of social progress in America, is a potential ally of the Green Party in the struggle for further social progress.

How ironic that the Democratic machine made no attempt to challenge your petition, yet the Green Party of Illinois machine challenged the petitions of both the Socialist and Constitution parties!
