Green Party stuggles for ballot access

Green Party stuggles for ballot access
Many thanks to The Rock River Times for its coverage of the Illinois Green Party’s struggle to have its statewide slate on the November ballot (“Local names on green party petition challenged,” July 19-25). However, two corrections are in order. First, the picture accompanying the article was not of me, but of the Green Party candidate for State Treasurer, Dan Rodriguez-Schlorff. (For more information about Dan’s campaign, check out his Web site, www.schlorff.com.)
Second, while it is true that Petition signer, the Rev. Ray Rhodes, is not a registered voter in Winnebago County, his current residence is in Boone County and, according to the Boone County Clerk, Rev. Rhodes is registered to vote at the address he indicated in the petition.
I would also like to take this opportunity to provide an update on the objection process. Currently, the Illinois State Board of Elections is conducting a “binder check” where each of the approximately 25,000 objected-to signatures are reviewed by an election judge, while observers representing the objectors and the Green Party try to respectively attack and defend each signature. A significant number of the objections have already been thrown out. Updates on the objection process are being regularly posted at www.ilgp.org.
