We are committed to giving Illinois voters the best choices in the elections to come.

In 2014, Illinois Green Party Congressional candidates Nancy Wade (5th District) and Paula Bradshaw (12th District) again received enough votes to maintain established party status for the Green Party in their districts.  And the Chicago Metropolitan Water District candidates did, too.

In 2016, the ILGP worked hard and successfully petitioned to get Green Party candidates on the November ballot, including Jill Stein for President, Scott Summers for U.S. Senate, and Tim Curtin for Illinois Comptroller.  www.ilgp.org/candidates

You can follow the ILGP on its website, Facebook, and Twitter.  Here is some additional information about the ILGP that you might find helpful.

Party Structure

The ILGP is a political party governed by Illinois election laws, but it is also a grassroots membership organization.  The membership organization is governed by its Bylaws, which can be found here: http://www.ilgp.org/about/bylaws/ .  The ILGP is a member organization of the Green Party of the United States (GPUS) (http://www.gp.org/) and elects delegates who serve on the United States Green National Committee.  GPUS  is a federation of state Green Parties and also partners with the European Federation of Green Parties and the Federation of Green Parties of the Americas.  In 2015, ILGP Members attended the GPUS annual national meeting in St. Louis, MO.  The 2016 Presidential Nominating Convention was in Houston on August 6, 2016.

Internally, the ILGP's highest decision-making body is its Membership, which typically meets twice per year.  Day-to-day decision making is by its Executive Committee--a Chair, four Vice Chairs, a Secretary, and a Treasurer, who are elected annually by the Membership.  The Coordinating Committee is a guiding body made up of ILGP Coordinators, who meet monthly.  Anyone who has been an ILGP Member for at least one year can be a Coordinator.  Or an ILGP Member can be an observer on the Coordinating Committee listserve by joining the Focus listserve (see below).  At the local level, the ILGP has affiliated Chapters in many areas, and the Chapter Members have autonomy to make decisions on local matters.  (It only takes three ILGP Members to start an affiliated ILGP Chapter.)  The ILGP needs members to step up in each Illinois county and district in order to run campaigns and grow as a movement and a political party.  We are looking for a pointperson in each county, so if there is no affiliated Chapter to plug into, please let us know if you would be interested in being a contact for your area.  Thanks!

Email listserves

Consider subscribing to these ILGP email listserves (Yahoo Groups):

- IllinoisGreensFocus
- ILGP-EducatorsCaucus

One of the best ways to help change the two-party corporate-dominated system is to stay informed about the Green Party so that you can speak to others about our values and positions.  I highly recommend that you at least sign up for the first of those email lists--the ILGP Focus listserve.  http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/IllinoisGreensFocus/info  The Focus emails are about activist issues and electoral politics and are ILGP-centric.  It is not a high-traffic listserve.  (You can choose to receive daily digests rather than individual emails.)  And by joining the Focus listserve, you can become an observer on the Coordinating Committee listserve.  If you would like to subscribe, let me know and I can sign you up.

The ILGP Educators Caucus listserve is for ILGP members who are educators, and for parents and students and others interested in educational issues.  Please let me know if you would like to join that caucus.

Last but not least:

Volunteer to help out at events and with candidate campaigns!

The ILGP does not accept campaign funds from corporations or other special interests.  We depend on contributions from individual citizens.  Please consider donating to the ILGP (www.ilgp.com/donate).

Thank you for joining us!
