Major polluter Midwest Generation to close two Chicago coal plants

Environmental activists with Pilsen Environmental Rights and Reform Organization (PERRO) scored a HUGE victory this week with the announcement by Midwest Generation that two notorious coal-fired power plants will be shut down. The Fisk and Crawford power plants, both located on the Southwest Side, are two of the biggest air polluters in the City of Chicago.

“We have struggled for over a decade to make this happen” said Dorian Breuer, a long-time PERRO activist who ran as a Green Party candidate for State Senate in 2006. “It is great to see to see our work finally pay off.”
